The Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) has brought western lifestyle enthusiasts together since 1896. In addition to the rodeo spectacles and competitions, it offers youths the opportunity to earn scholarships to help pay for college. Some of the opportunities include the art contest, equine scholarships, the Beef Challenge, and the Texas M.A.D.E. competition.
The FWSSR has provided $283,000 in scholarships through the Texas M.A.D.E. competition. The competition is open to senior high school students who have served as Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show Junior Agricultural Mechanics Project Show exhibitors at least twice. The Heifer Superintendent’s Beef Challenge, on the other hand, welcomes students to compete in the Educational Information Challenge and Sales Talk contests. In the latter, participants must explain to three judges why their breed of heifer should be adopted by commercial beef producers.
